50+ Luncheon - Wednesday, July 25, 2018, 11:30am-1:30pm. Lunch is free but registration is required. Call Amherst House by to register your attendance by Friday, July 21. Must be KC resident, 50+ and living on CA assessed property.

Annual Pool Party - Thursday, August 9, 2018, 6:30-9:00pm. Free food, games, and music...fun for all the family at the Dickinson pool! Free tickets available at Amherst House starting on July 9th, limited number available. Must be KC resident living on CA assessed property.

Fall Flea Market and Scarecrow Making - Saturday, September 22, 2018, 9:00am-12:00pm. The Flea Market will take place in the Amherst House parking lot. One space is $10, two are $15. Priority given to KC residents. Non-residents will be put on a waiting list for any available spaces. Spaces become available August 15. Advertising will be placed in area newspapers for this event. Bring some old clothes and one or two pairs of pantyhose to make your scarecrow (we provide the straw). Rain date is Saturday, September 29.

VIN Etching and "Watch Your Car" - Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00am-12:00pm, in front of Amherst House along with Fall Flea Market. The Maryland Anti-Car Theft Committee will be sponsoring a free VIN etching and registration in the Watch Your Car Program which has proven to be a highly effective deterrent to car theft. This anti-theft program registers your cars and places decals on your vehicle which allow police to stop your car between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. without observing a violation.

Halloween Happenings! - Friday, October 26, 2018, 5:00-6:30pm at Amherst House. Daisy the Clown is back with three, free, magic shows at 5:00, 5:45, and 6:30pm. Walk around the village center to trick-or-treat and visit the Haunted House in the courtyard (sponsored by the Hammond High School Music Department). Village center events take place from 5:00-8:00pm.

Fall Community Clean-up - Saturday, November 3, 2018, 10:00am-1:00pm. Join the KC Environmental Committee in keeping our open space beautiful. We will pick up litter in the open space around the village center and along our major roads and streams. Register at Amherst House beginning at 10:00am. Safety vests, bags and rubber gloves will be provided. Wear appropriate clothing - we pick up in wooded areas, too. Community service certificates and snacks available.

Shredding and eCycle Event - Saturday, November 3, 2018, 10:00am-1:00pm in Amherst House parking lot. Here’s your chance to safely get rid of personal papers, old computers, hard drives, monitors, TVs and more. Shredding and E-cycling will be offered from 10:00am-1:00pm in the Amherst House parking lot for Kings Contrivance residents only. (IDs will be checked.) Bring personal papers which will be shredded on site (limit 10 file boxes per resident). No commercial/business materials will be accepted. You can also E-cycle CDs, tapes, discs, computers, laptops, keyboards/mice/cables, monitors, printers, scanners, cell & regular phones, fax and answering machines, VCR cable boxes, stereo equipment, and battery backups (no alkaline). You can recycle one TV (26” or less) for free; additional TVs (26” or less) are $10 each. For larger TVs, a fee will be charged as follows: $15 for TVs 26”—40”, $25 for TVs larger than 40”, and $35 for console TVs. The following electronics will not be accepted: microwaves, refrigerators, washers, dryers,toasters, dishwashers and household appliances. Thanks for recycling!

Exploring Columbia on Foot - Thursday, November 8, 2018, 10:00am. “Exploring Columbia on Foot” will once again be led by award-winning environmental author Ned Tillman, who will guide discussions on the nature, history and future of these wonderful outdoor settings. Meet at Huntington Pool parking lot at 10:00am, registration is not required.

Family Fun Bingo - Friday, November 16, 2018, 7:30-9:00pm. Enjoy an evening of fun with family and friends playing bingo at Amherst House. Purchase 6 cards for $1, drinks are $.75, & snacks are free!

Ladies' Paint Night - Friday, October 6, 2017 at 7:00pm at Amherst House. Grab your mom, sister, or girlfriends and join us for a fun-filled evening of wine, cheese and painting! Your $25 fee includes all the supplies and instruction for a 16 x 20 canvas as well as snacks and wine. Come in to Amherst House today to register for your spot!

Lunch with Santa - Saturday, December 9, 2017, 11:30am-1:00pm. Come to lunch, meet Santa and tell him all your wishes. Purchase tickets in advance: $5.50 CA assessed; $6 non-assessed. Price includes a craft, pizza and dessert, and a photo with Santa. Tickets available November 6.

Cookies & Craft with Santa - Saturday, December 16, 2017, 2:00-3:30pm. Make a holiday craft, decorate cookies and have your photo taken with Santa. Purchase tickets in advance: $4 CA assessed; $4.50 non-assessed. Tickets available November 6.

Family Fun Bingo - Friday, January 26, 2018, 7:30-9:00pm. Join friends and neighbors for an evening of Bingo at Amherst House. $1 for 6 cards, drinks are $.75, & snacks are free!

Wine Tasting Night - Friday, February 23, 2018, 7:30-9:00pm. Come and enjoy a night out with friends & neighbors! Eric Stein from Decanter Fine Wines in the Hickory Ridge Village Center will present a short talk about six different kinds of wine for you to taste. Wine, cheese and snacks will be served. ADULTS OVER 21 ONLY. Please purchase your tickets in advance--limited numbers will be sold. $15 per person.

Avoid Being a Victim: Scams and Fraud - Friday, March 2, 2018, 10:00-11:30am. We hear a lot these days about fraud and scams. Join us for an informative session where you will learn practical tips and ways to identify fraud and scams to avoid becoming a victim. Enjoy coffee and pastries as you hear a presentation by the HCPD and the Howard County Office of Consumer Protection. This is a FREE presentation but registration is required. Gardening Seminars - Tuesday evenings in winter, 7:00-8:30pm. Three, free gardening seminars held by Master Gardeners in January, February and March. Call to register, snacks will be served. January 23, 2018 - Pruning with Joe DiGiovanni. The how, when and why of pruning ornamental trees and shrubs. February 27, 2018 - Growing Small Fruits in the Home Garden with Kent Phillips. Learn how to grow small fruits in the backyard garden. March 13, 2018 - Getting Your Garden Ready for Spring with Paul Beares. This session provides guidance on sustainable gardening best practices for the spring season.

Ladies' Night Bingo - Friday, March 16, 2018, 7:30-9:00pm. Join us for an evening of free wine, cheese and snacks as you play BINGO for fun prizes! Buy your BINGO cards at Amherst House by March 15th to be entered into a raffle! Adults only. The cost is $5.00 for 6 cards and 12 games will be played.

Columbia Cleans Day RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY, APRIL 28 - Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:00am-1:00pm. Join the KC Environmental Committee in this Columbia-wide effort to keep our open space beautiful. Searching for Spring Egg Hunt - Saturday, April 14, 2018, 10:00am-11:30am. Columbia Sports Park (ages 2-8yrs). 10:00am: Crafts & Balloons; 10:45am: Egg Hunt; followed by Turner, Dean of Magic Show (bring your own basket). Free tickets required for children, tickets available March 19, Columbia residents only. Event is co-sponsored by all villages of Columbia.

Village Elections - Friday, April 27, 2018, 5:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday, April 28, 2017, 9:00am-1:00pm. All Kings Contrivance Village residents (living on assessment paying property) 18 years or older can vote. Please vote—we have a quorum we must meet. Kids will be voting on an animal to adopt from the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore!

Flea Market - Saturday, April 28, 2018, 9:00am-12:00pm. The Flea Market will take place in the Amherst House parking lot. Spaces for KC residents only. One space is $10, two are $15. Non-residents will be put on a waiting list for any available spaces. Advertising will be placed in area newspapers for this event. Rain date is Saturday May 5.

Wills and Estates in Maryland - Friday, May 11, 2018, 10:00am. The Chief Judge of the Orphans' Court for Howard County and former KC Village Manager, Ann Dodd, will give a presentation about wills and estates and the Orphans' Court. The Orphans' Court is a probate court; come learn why the court is so named, what constitutes a legal will, how estates are administered and what to do if a loved one dies. There will be plenty of time for questions. Please call to register.

Bugs That Bite - Tuesday, May 22, 2018, 7:00-8:30pm. Residents will learn how to combat mosquitoes and ticks this summer. Join us and learn ways to protect you and your family from tick-borne diseases. You will also learn some interesting facts about mosquitoes and how to combat mosquito breeding in your neighborhood. Call to register, participation is limited.

Hands-Only CPR & AED Training - Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 7:15-8:15pm. Howard County Dept. of Fire & Rescue Services is offering a free CPR class which reviews Hands-Only CPR and AED training for use on people 8 years and older. This class is appropriate for all ages so bring the whole family! (under 16 must be accompanied by an adult) Call to register.
